Jack loved trees. They were alive - of course they were!
Jack and the Trees explores the ideas of kaitiaki and care for nature and our environment, with children as the protagonists fighting adults in their communities who are not considering the planet in the decisions they are making.
Author David Walker has 20-plus years of teaching experience in NZ Intermediate schools, with a strong focus on sustainable practices. There is learning linked throughout the book about flora, fauna, ecology and te ao Māori, based on consultation with Māori education colleagues. Woven into the story is an element of fantasy that children will identify with.
