This resource from the Department of Conservation provides an overview for kaiako, introducing key concepts, along with activity plans and printable worksheets. Students start to form an inquiry plan (using your own inquiry model, or the one provided), identify a local green space and begin to explore it.
It includes activities to help plan an investigation into the biodiversity in your local green space, which could include your local park, reserve or even your own school or kura grounds. The activities can also be used as stand-alone authentic learning experiences, to encourage students to connect with nature in their local places.
This resource is part of the 'Explore your Local Nature' series, to encourage primary and intermediate students to go outdoors, explore and connect with their local green spaces.
