BikeReady extends beyond bike handling skills. Classroom learning helps young people place their bike riding in a wider context of participation in a safe transport system.
The curriculum resources for BikeReady are written by education specialist Pam Hook. They include lesson plans to support students taking part in Grade 1 skills training. Everything is clearly aligned to New Zealand Curriculum achievement objectives, with sufficient flexibility for teachers to create learning experiences for the curriculum level at which their students are working.
The resources cover:
- Activating prior knowledge
- Demonstrating skills and knowledge for safe riding
- Inquiry into challenges and opportunities for bike riding in the local community
The resources can be downloaded as either PDF or Word documents and are also available in te reo Māori.
