Nature Books: Storytelling, Curiosity and Empathy - Last chance to view videos!
We published this Spotlight last term, but just wanted to remind you that the videos will be taken down at the end of October and just the text will be available after that. We explore ways you can use pukapuka to strengthen environmental learning, including discussions with Aotearoa authors & illustrators.

Earth Dreamers
Earth Dreamers is designed to support the social sciences curriculum for teachers of Years 7–8 ākonga and encourages ākonga to explore the complex global issue of the climate crisis within their local contexts in ways that foster joy and agency, curiosity, and hope.

Ko au te taiao: Recognising that we are nature through mātauranga Māori values and the collections at Te Papa. This new resource encourages teachers and learners to explore mātauranga Māori values, observe te taiao, and take action for a better world.

Māori knowledge of animals - Science Learning Hub
Science Learning Hub have created bilingual and te reo Māori resources with Professor Georgina Tuari Stewart & Dr Sally Birdsall, to showcase mātauranga Māori related to our indigenous animals of Aotearoa. Join the SLH Webinar coming up on Oct 24 - Register here

Te Tatauranga o ngā Manu Māra o Aotearoa
Created by the Science Learning Hub in collaboration with Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research and the Garden Bird Survey team, these new resources are available in te reo Māori. The collection of articles contains ready to use slideshows packed with activities and images to get your ākonga thinking deeply about manu and their connections to them.

He aha tēnei hekaheka | What is this fungus?
This bilingual poster from Manaaki Whenua | Landcare Research provides an introduction to fungi, certain kinds of which were traditionally valued by Maori, like awheto (vegetable caterpillar) which was burned and used to make ink for ta moko / tattooing. You can also find other bilingual posters for bugs, birds and wetland animals on their website.
